Paula Stokes grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, but never felt at home until she moved to the Pacific Northwest, where she’s rarely more than an hour from mountains, forests, or the Pacific Ocean. She is an avid hiker and kayaker who has been known to pull her car over occasionally just to marvel at the majestic scenery around her.
Paula started writing poems and stories as a child and completed her first full-length manuscript while in college. (It was bad). After a stint in AmeriCorps and a year teaching English in South Korea, she got her start in professional writing by penning historical novels for a book development company.
Since then she has gone on to release seven of her own works, including Liars, Inc. and Girl Against the Universe. All of her YA thrillers have received starred reviews, and her internet shaming story, This is How it Happened, was an Oregon Book Award finalist.
Besides writing, Paula’s passions include helping others and having adventures in faraway lands. She currently works as a crisis hotline responder and mental health counselor. She wrote Hellfinder after her third trip to Iceland, where she toured black sand beaches, hiked on glaciers, and descended into a volcano during a blinding snowstorm.
Regal House Publishing and Fitzroy Books are delighted to bring you Paula’s Hellfinder in the summer of 2023.
